2 more swine flu deaths in Rajasthan take India toll to 575

Two more persons have died of influenza A (H1N1) in the desert state of Rajasthan, taking the toll due to the swine flu pandemic in India so far to 575, an official statement said here today.


While no deaths were reported in the country during the day, two deaths that occurred in Rajasthan earlier were reported by the state authorities to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare today, it said.


Of the total deaths in the country so far, Maharashtra now accounts for 223, while 120 lives have been lost in Karnataka, 50 in Andhra Pradesh, 46 in Gujarat, 44 in Rajasthan, 26 in Kerala, 22 in Delhi, 8 in Haryana, 7 in Tamil Nadu, 6 in Puducherry, 5 each in Goa and Uttarakhand, 3 each in Uttar Pradesh, Orissa and Punjab and 1 each in Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Mizoram.


As many as 191 fresh cases of influenza A (H1N1) were reported from different parts of India today, including 78 in Delhi, 20 in Uttar Pradesh, 19 each in Maharashtra and Haryana, 14 each in Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu, 11 in Karnataka, 10 in Kerala, 4 in Uttarkhand and 2 in Jammu & Kashmir.


With these, the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases of the virus reported in the country so far has gone up to 18,198, the statement added.
