IRCTC New Rules From 1st July 2025: From July 1, 2025, all passengers will have to compulsorily do Aadhaar and OTP verification for Tatkal train booking. This IRCTC New Rules is the most revolutionary change made by the Railways Department so far, which will now make the travel of crores of people safer and easier than before. Recently, Indian Railways has made a historic change in its ticket booking system where, from July 1, 2025, passengers booking Tatkal train tickets will now have to verify their identity with an Aadhaar card and get one-time password verification done.
Let us tell you that these new IRCTC rules introduced by the railways will now ensure safe and transparent travel because, till now, there were many people who used to book tickets through agents. These agents and technical know-how were used to complete countless bookings of Tatkal tickets in a fraudulent manner, due to which the needy citizen was not able to get the ticket on time.

A lot of blackmailing of Tatkal tickets was also being seen due to agents and middlemen. To curb this, Indian Railways has now made Aadhaar card and OTP verification mandatory so that while booking railway tickets, candidates can book tickets by entering the mobile number through their Aadhaar card so that a person will definitely be able to book a ticket for himself at one time and the options of illegal ticket booking will end.
What is Aadhaar verification and OTP verification?
Aadhaar verification is a process in which a person has to enter the Aadhaar number and give its details. This is a great way to authenticate the identity of the person. As we all know, every person has been given a digital identity in the Aadhar card. This IRCTC digital identity is ensured by the railway department so that the identity of the person booking the ticket can be ensured, and it can be seen whether the identity of the person in whose name the ticket is being booked is authentic or not.
After this, it also becomes mandatory to do OTP verification, in which a 6-digit one-time password is received. This one-time password is sent to the mobile number linked to Aadhaar. When the passenger enters his Aadhaar number, this code is sent to the mobile number linked to Aadhaar, after entering which the railway website ensures that the passenger booking the ticket is the right claimant so that the right passenger does not face any problem in booking the ticket.

What is the benefit to the passengers from the railway’s decision?
Problems like fake booking will end with the railway’s IRCTC New Rules decision. The process of booking illegal tickets by agents will also be stopped, and black marketing of tickets will also end. Also, due to Aadhaar and OTP verification, the system of booking tickets will be very transparent.
Needy passengers will be given priority in booking tickets so that the needy will not face any inconvenience while booking tickets, and now the agents will not be able to charge arbitrary amounts.
How will Aadhaar be mandatory for Tatkal Ticket Booking?
- Under the new system of railways, if a passenger wants to book a Tatkal ticket, then the passenger will have to log in to the IRCTC account.
- After this, the Aadhaar number will have to be linked.
- After linking the Aadhaar number, they will receive an OTP on the mobile number linked to Aadhaar.
- They will have to enter this OTP on the portal while booking the ticket.
- Their ticket will be confirmed as soon as the number is entered.
- This verification will have to be completed by both general passengers and agents so that every person can get the facility to book a limited number of tickets.
- Under this rule, all ticket bookers will have to follow the rule, such as
- individual passengers,
- Railway authorized agents,
- Passengers doing group booking,
- Even foreign citizens (though foreign citizens will have to get their passport and visa details verified)
How to link an IRCTC account with an Aadhaar card?
- To link an IRCTC account with an Aadhaar card, first of all, the passenger has to go to the IRCTC website.
- On the homepage of this website, they have to click on the option of My Account.
- Here they have to choose the option of linking Aadhar.
- After selecting this option, they have to enter the 12-digit Aadhaar number and click on submit.
- After this, an OTP comes on the mobile number linked to the Aadhar card of the applicant.
- The applicant has to verify the one-time password.
- As soon as the password is verified, the IRCTC account of the applicant gets linked to the Aadhar card.
How to book a Tatkal ticket after the IRCTC account is linked to the Aadhar card?
As we told you, while booking Tatkal tickets, every passenger will have to complete the Aadhar card linking and OTP verification process; only after that will he be able to book Tatkal tickets. In such a situation, a slight change has been made in the process of booking Tatkal tickets.
First of all, the applicant has to log in to the IRCTC website. After logging on to the website, they have to enter the travel details. After entering the travel details, they have to select the train and the ticket booking quota. After this, the passenger has to enter his name, age details, etc. After entering the details, they have to link the profile of all the passengers with Aadhaar and enter the OTP received. After entering the OTP, the payment process has to be proceeded with, and the ticket booking is completed.

Things to keep in mind while booking tickets with OTP verification
- All those passengers who want to book tickets by doing Aadhaar and OTP verification have to keep the following things in mind:
- The OTP will come only on the mobile that is linked to the Aadhaar card.
- If the Aadhaar card is not linked, then the Tatkal ticket will not be booked.
- The OTP has to be filled in within one minute during booking.
- Whether it is a single ticket or group booking, it is necessary to provide the Aadhaar details of all the passengers.
- There is no other option available for all those passengers who do not have an Aadhaar card because the Government of India has made the Aadhaar card mandatory for every citizen.
- If the passenger does not have an Aadhaar card, then at least Aadhaar registration is necessary.
