Bharatswasthya: an E kitab on Health

The info revolution is spreading even on the mobile platform, but Indian language content is still a weak stream. The Indian language communities need to contribute in various subject areas. is a free and open source of edited primary care information in Hindi. Launched last year and completing its first leg in March 2014, we receive about 500 visits daily and hope to reach out to the large Hindi speaking society.

The primary care website is useful for health workers, paramedics, patients, students, nurses, consumers and lay people.

The site is a 1000 page primary care book carrying about 200 topics, 1000 illustrations, interactive diagnostic flow charts of 20 common symptoms like fever and cough, 25 short videos, powerpoints, tables and swasthya shabdakosh.

The site is in unicode and hence searchable. The diagnostic flow charts offer ready help in primary diagnosis of about 100 common illnesses. There is also the information on 50 primary care medicines in common use.

The Ayurveda section offers information about useful herbs and 100 common remedies with indications.

The site is launched by Bharatvaidyaka sanstha with help of Sir Ratan Tata Trust on small grant program in 2013-14.

Earlier we have launched a primary care site in Marathi ( which has clocked over 2.2 million visits so far. This is an appeal for subject contributions, more language versions and voluntary assistance and above all spread a word for wider usage of the source.
