India's wholesale inflation rate rises to 3.18% in March, 2019

India's wholesale inflation rate, based on the monthly Wholesale Price Index (WPI), with base 2011-12=100, rose to 3.18 percent for March, 2019 as compared to 2.93 percent for the previous month and 2.74 percent during the corresponding month of the previous year, provisional data released here today said.
An official press release, citing the data, said the WPI for ‘All Commodities’ (Base: 2011-12=100) for the month of March, 2019 rose by 0.4 percent to 120.0 from 119.5 for the previous month.
The build-up inflation rate in the financial year so far was 3.18% compared to a build-up rate of 2.74% in the corresponding period of the previous year, it said.
The release said the rate of inflation, based on WPI Food Index consisting of ‘Food Articles’ from Primary Articles group and ‘Food Product’ from Manufactured Products group increased from 3.29% in February, 2019 to 3.89% in March, 2019.
It said that the final WPI for 'All Commodities’ (Base: 2011-12=100) for January, 2019 stood unchanged at its provisional level of 119.2, as reported on February 14, 2019.
Accordingly, the annual rate of inflation for January, 2019, based on the final index stood unchanged at 2.76% as reported on that date, the release added.
