Bye-election for Jamnagar Rural seat in Gujarat Assembly to be held on April 23

The Election Commission of India today said a bye-election to fill the vacancy from the Jamnagar Rural constituency in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly would be held on April 23.
The Commission had yesterday announced it would hold bye-elections on April 23 to fill two vacancies in the Gujarat Assembly from the Dhrangadhra and Manavadar constituencies.
All three bye-elections will be held simultaneously with the elections to the Lok Sabha in the relevant Parliamentary constituencies.
The notification for the bye-elections will be issued on March 28 and the last date for filing nominations is April 4. The last date for withdrawal of candidatures is April 8. Counting of votes will be taken up on May 23, the release added.
Jamnagar (Rural) seat fell vacant on Monday when Congress MLA Vallabh Dharaviya submitted his resignation to Assembly Speaker Rajendra Trivedi.
Dharaviya is the third MLA to leave the Congress and resign as legislator in the past one week. Last week, four-time legislator from Manavadar Jawahar Chavda and Dhrangardra legislator Parshottam Sapariya quit the party.
