Piyush Goyal given temporary charge of Finance, Corporate Affairs

Railways and Coal Minister Piyush Goyal was today given the temporary additional charge of the Ministries of Finance and Corporate Affairs in place of the indisposed Arun Jaitley.
 
"The President of India, as advised by the Prime Minister, hereby directed that during the period of indisposition of Shri Arun Jaitley, Minister; the portfolios of Minister of Finance and Minister of Corporate Affairs held by him, be temporarily assigned to Shri Piyush Goyal, in addition to his existing portfolios," a press communique from Rashtrapati Bhavan said.
 
"Further, as advised by the Prime Minister, Shri Arun Jaitley be designated as Minister without portfolio during the period of his indisposition or till such time he is able to resume his work as Minister of Finance and Minister of Corporate Affairs," it added.
 
Mr. Jaitley is currently in the United States for medical treatment.
 
Mr. Goyal had earlier, in May last year, been given the additional charge of Finance and Corporate Affairs for about three months after Mr. Jaitley undewent a kidney transplant at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences and was convalescing at home. Mr. Jaitley resumed his charge in late August, 2018.
