SpiceXpress, the dedicated air cargo arm of low-cost carrier SpiceJet, today announced the launch of freighter services between Guwahati in Assam and Hong Kong.
To start with, the airline will operate a weekly service between Guwahati and Hong Kong, with the first flight scheduled to take off tomorrow from Guwahati's Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport carrying a consignment of fresh fruits and vegetables.
With this launch, SpiceXpress will be the first to connect North East India with South East Asia through a freighter route, a press release from the airline said.
The company will deploy its Boeing 737 freighter on the route with an approximate carrying capacity of 18 tonnes, it said.
?SpiceXpress sees a huge potential for exports from North East India and plans to add connecting weekly flights each from Silchar and Imphal to Hong Kong thereby taking the total tally to three flights per week between the regions. Besides fresh fruits and vegetables, SpiceXpress also plans to start export of exotic tea and kiwi wines from Arunachal Pradesh," the release said.
"The dedicated cargo flights to Hong Kong will help bring in huge opportunities for the North East region and allow them to expand their market outreach to the international markets. This in turn will also elevate the entire economy of the region," it said.
SpiceJet had announced the launch of its dedicated air cargo services – SpiceXpress – in September 2018 and inducted its first freighter aircraft at a ceremony held at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi.
The cargo services operates on both domestic and international routes and is powered by SpiceJet’s fully integrated transportation network including air cargo, ground transportation and warehousing facilities across the country.
SpiceXpress operates on an incremental direct operating cost model thereby extending its operations through its common pool of resources like pilots, engineers, ground staff and airport infrastructure, the release added.
