President confers honorary rank of General of Indian Army on Nepal's Gen Purna Chandra Thapa

President Ram Nath Kovind conferred the honorary rank of General of the Indian Army on General Purna Chandra Thapa, Chief of the Army Staff, Nepalese Army, at a special investiture ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan here today.
The conferment of the honorary rank was made for Gen Thapa's commendable military prowess and immeasurable contribution to fostering Nepal’s long and friendly association with India, an official press release said.
As part of a long-standing tradition between India and Nepal, both the countries confer the honorary title on each other’s army chiefs.
