Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off a train for Patna from Manduadih Railway Station, launched various development projects and addressed a public meeting at the DLW Grounds here yesterday.
Mr Modi complimented the people of the pilgrim city for extending a warm welcome to French President Emmanuel Macron. He said the Government is committed to the continuous development and upgrading of the Diesel Locomotive Works (DLW), that manufactures diesel-electric locomotives and its spare part, describing it as  a symbol of the industrial development of Varanasi.
He appreciated the efforts of the State Government in the housing sector and urged it to ensure that more people get access to housing facilities. The Prime Minister also commended the exhibition of various “waste to wealth” initiatives at the venue.
There is immense potential for tourism in Varanasi, and all efforts should be made to keep the city clean, he added. Referring to the recently announced Ayushman Bharat scheme, he said it will transform the health sector by providing top quality healthcare to the poor.
