Two LeT terrorists killed as 32-hour gun battle ends in Karan Nagar area of Srinagar

Two terrorists killed in Karan Nagar encounter in Srinagar
Security forces neutralised two terrorists, said to be Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) operatives, after a 32-hour gun battle in the busy Karan Nagar area of Srinagar which started after a failed attack on a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camp yesterday.

The two terrorists were holed up in a five-storeyed building in the locality and the authorities said they had to proceed with caution so as to ensure there was no collateral damage. People in the vicinity of the building had been evacuated.

The operations were carried by the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the CRPF.

Officials said two  bodies were recovered from the scene of the encounter, along with two AK-47 assault rifles and eight magazines.

The encounter came just two days after four Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorists attacked an Army camp at Sunjuwan in Jammu, in which seven people -- six soldiers and a civilian -- lost their lives. The four terrorists were neutralised.

An alert CRPF guard had foiled the attempt to attack the camp in Srinagar by opening fire on the terrorists, after which they hid in the under-construction building in the Karan Nagar locality.

A CRPF constable was killed and a policeman suffered injuries in the initial exchange of fire with the terrorists yesterday.

“We rescued five families of CRPF personnel as well as a few civilians and once the sanitisation of the area was done, the operation was launched," an official said today after the end of the operations.
