10 dead after bus crashes off bridge in Karnataka
At least ten people died and 28 others suffered injuries when a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) Volvo bus veered off a bridge and crashed in Hassan district of the state in the early hours of today.
The bus was on its way from Bengaluru to Dharmastala when the mishap occurred at around 3.15 am near Shantigram in Hassan taluka on national highway (NH)-75, official sources said.
They said seven people died on the spot while three others succumbed to their injuries in hospital later. The deceased included the bus driver and conductor as well as two women, they said.
The injured were admitted to the Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences for treatment.
Residents of nearby villages rushed to the scene to help the victims and police and other emergency personnel also reached there son.
The State Government announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs. 3 lakh for the next-of-kin of those who died in the accident. The State Government also said it would bear the medical expenses of all those who suffered injuries.
