Ten dead, five injured as van rams into truck near Tiruchirappalli

Ten dead after van collides with truck in Tamil Nadu
Ten people died and five others suffered injuries when a passenger van carrying them crashed into a truck from behind between Tiruchirappali and Madurai on National Highway 45 in Tamil Nadu late last night.
The mishap occurred around 11 pm yesterday at Thuvarankurichi in Tiruchirappalli district when the van was on its way from Nagercoil in Tamil Nadu to Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh, district superintendent of police P S C Kalyan told NetIndian over the telephone.
He said the deceased included five men, three women, a boy and a girl. The injured, including the driver of the van, were rushed to the government General Hospital in Tiruchirappalli. The victims were all related to each other.
According to various accounts, the driver of the speeding van -- a Tempo Traveller -- apparently lost control over the vehicle, probably after dozing off at the wheel, and could not stop it in time when the truck, carrying a borewell rig, turned right at a roundabout on the highway.
