Rear Admiral Sanjay Roye takes over as new FOC, Gujarat Naval Area

Rear Admiral Sanjay Roye took over as the third Flag Officer Commanding of the Gujarat, Daman and Diu Naval Area (FOGNA) from Rear Admiral Sandeep Beecha at a ceremony at Gandhinagar near here today.
 
Gujarat, in view of its strategic location and vast coastline of 1600 km, plays a very significant role in the security and economic dynamics of the nation. 
 
FOGNA is responsible to the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Naval Command for all naval operations in Gujarat, Daman and Diu Naval Area, security of its coast and Offshore Development Areas which contribute significantly to India’s commercial and maritime economic activities.
 
Rear Admiral Roye joined National Defence Academy in 1983 and was commissioned in the Indian Navy in 1986. He is a recipient of the coveted ‘Binoculars’ and ‘CNS Gold Medal’ for being adjudged the ‘Best All-round Cadet’ and ‘First in Order of Merit’ during cadets and midshipman training, respectively.
 
The officer belongs to the Submarine Arm of the Indian Navy and is a Navigation and Direction Specialist. He has held a number of staff appointments on board submarines and has commanded Indian Naval Submarines Sindhurakshak, Sindhuraj and Chakra.
 
He has also held a number of key ashore appointments, including Commodore Commanding Submarines (West) and Commanding Officer, INS Vajrabahu. Prior to the present appointment as the Flag Officer Commanding, Gujarat Daman and Diu Naval Area, the Flag Officer held the appointment of Project Director (Operations & Training) at Headquarters, Advance Technology Vessel Project in New Delhi.
