The public sector Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL), the largest compressed natural gas (CNG) distribution company in the country, has started issuing pre-paid smart cards for its fleet and retail customers.

The IGL Smart Card was launched by Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan at a function here today.

Mr. Manoj Kumar Tiwari and Mr. Parvesh Verma, members of Parliament from Delhi; GAIL (India) Chairman and Managing Director B. C. Tripathi; and IGL Managing Director E. S. Ranganathan were amongst those present on the occasion.

Mr. Pradhan said the smart cards would, among other things, help reduce transaction time at CNG stations.

He also distributed smart cards to some of the fleet as well as retail customers of IGL, including Ola cabs, which would be taking 5000 smart cards for its fleet operating in the city. He also saw demonstration of smart cards transaction after fuel dispensing at the CNG station.

Mr. Ranganathan presented an overview of the IGL Smart Card programme with its underlying objective of increasing customer delight while leveraging technology. He added that IGL is already committed to Digital India programme having digitized all its processes. He disclosed that Smart Card programme would subsequently be expanded to include PNG payments in future.

IGL Smart Card is a Prepaid Near Field Communication (NFC) enabled card to benefit fleet and retail CNG customers for payment at all IGL CNG Stations located in Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad. This is the first time that a prepaid card programme is being started in the City Gas distribution sector in the country, which is aimed at providing convenience in transactions thereby improving the overall customer experience at CNG stations.

IGL Smart Card (Fleet) would be useful for fleet operators, Government departments, schools, institutions as well as corporates. Organisations owning CNG run commercial vehicles like trucks, buses, Goods Vehicles, LCVs, cars, taxis, jeeps, vans, and others can enroll for the fleet programme.

The pre-paid retail card is meant for individual owners of cars, autorickshaws, tais, goods vehicles and so on.

The retail card can be issued instantly at the CNG Station, though the individual customer will also have the option to pre-register at IGL Smart Card website, thus saving time for registration at counter. The customer will also be able to have access to live dashboards, reports and transaction.
