Nine dead in car-truck collision in Karnataka
Nine persons, including three women and three children, died when the multi-utility vehicle they were travelling in collided with a truck in the ghat section near Yellapur in Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka this morning.
The victims included eight members of two families and the driver of the vehicle, which was plying as a cab.
Police sources said the mishap occurred around 8.45 am when the 12-seater maxi-cab was reportedly trying to overtake another vehicle and collided head-on with the truck travelling in the opposite direction at a spot about 525 km from here.
One passenger in the cab suffered serious injuries and was rushed to the government hospital at Hubbali, about 70 km away.
The victims hailed from Raibagh in the adjoining district of Belagavi and were turning home from a pilgrimage to temples in the Dakshina Kannada district.
