Three terrorists, two soldiers die in Shopian encounter
Three terrorists and two soldiers died in a gunbattle between security forces and militants that  began yesterday evening in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir, official sources said today.
The operations, which began with a search by a team of the local police and the Army at Avneera village yesterday evening, were continuing, the sources said.
The terrorists opened fire in a bid to break free through the cordon, leading to an encounter in which two soldiers were killed, they said.
In a separate incident, two policemen suffered injuries when militants opened fire at a cordon and search party of the Rashtriya Rifles and the local police at Wahab Parra, Hajin in Bandipora district. The injured policemen were rushed to a nearby hospital, while the cordon and search operations were continuing, police sources added.
Meanwhile, Imtiyaz Ahmad Mir, a civilian who was injured when a petrol bomb was hurled near Budyari Chowk, Dalgate in Srinagar district yesterday, succumbed to his injuries at the Sher-I-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences ( SKIMS) here in the early hours of today, police added.
