Mukherjee, Modi condole passing away of Lee Kuan Yew

President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi today condoled the passing away of Singapore's founding Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew, who died in Singapore early this morning t the age of 91.
“Heartfelt condolences on sad demise of former PM Lee Kuan Yew of Singapore, Asia will mourn the loss of a towering leader," Mr Mukherjee said on micro-blogging site Twitter.
"A far-sighted statesman and a lion among leaders, Mr Lee Kuan Yew's life teaches valuable lessons to everyone. News of his demise is saddening," Mr Modi said on Twitter.
"In this hour of bereavement, our prayers are with Mr. Lee Kuan Yew's family and the people of Singapore. May his soul rest in peace," he added.
Congress President Sonia Gandhi also expressed grief over the passing away of Mr Le, describing him as the builder of modern multi-ethnic Singapore.
She said Mr Lee belonged to the league of Asian statesmen who successfully carried forward the task of nation building.
Recalling his visit to deliver the 37th Jawahar lal Nehru Memorial lecture, Ms Gandhi said that his ties with India as indeed the Congress Party were warm.
