21 hurt in fire at SAIL's IISCO Steel Plant at Burnpur in West Bengal

21 injured in explosion in IISCO steel plant in West Bengal
At least 21 people suffered injuries in a fire that broke out at public sector Steel Authority of India Limited's (SAIL) IISCO Steel Plant (ISP) at Burnpur in Bardhaman district of West Bengal today.
A spokesman for SAIL said the mishap occurred around 12.15 pm and preliminary inquiry revealed that the fire had broken out in the New Coke Oven Battery No.11. 
He said the fire was immediately extinguished.The incident occurred during a planned shutdown taken for carrying out rectification jobs in one of the pre-heaters of the coke oven battery, he said.
The spokesman said around 21 affected persons were provided immediate medical attention, both at the Plant Medical Unit and at Burnpur Hospital.
Of them, two employees of a contractor, BEC, had been admitted to the intensive care unit of the hospital, he added.
Both company officials and the local police are investigating the cause of the fire, sources said.
