The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today said it had arrested an Inspector of Works (IOW) (Construction) and an Assistant Divisional Mechanical Engineer, both of Northern Railway, Ambala Cantonment, in separate cases of bribery.
A press release from the agency said a case had been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act alleging that the IOW, working in the office of the Executive Engineer, Northern Railway, Ambala Cantt., had demanded a bribe of Rs 16,000, later reduced to Rs 15,000, for releasing the bank guarantee, securities and earnest money of a businessman.
On the basis of the complaint from the businessman, the CBI laid a trap and allegedly caught the official red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe of Rs 15,000 from him.
A search of the official's premises yielded a recovery of Rs 1.75 lakh in cash and some "incriminating documents", the release said. He was produced before the designated court and remanded in judicial custody.

The CBI registered a case against the engineer and laid a trap in which he was allegedly caught red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe of Rs 2000. Searches are being conducted at the office and residential premises of accused, the release said.
