14 killed, 33 injured as tanker hits bus from Gujarat near Thane in Maharashtra

At least 14 people were killed and 33 others injured when a speeding tanker rammed into a luxury bus on its way from Ahmedabad in Gujarat t to Mumbai near Kasa village in the Thane Rural area, near here in Maharashtra, in the early hours of today.
Police sources said the accident occurred around 0700 hours on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway when the tanker swerved out of control, crossed the road divider and hit the oncoming bus, which then veered off the road and fell into a river at a spot about 110 km from Mumbai.
The sources said those killed included eight men, five women and a boy. The injured were rushed to hospitals in Mumbai, Vapi and Palghar.
The bus was badly damaged in the collision, with its side getting torn off.
The accident led to a huge traffic jam n the busy highway for several hours before it was cleared this afternoon after rescue operations were over.
