CBI registers case against BJP MP Natubai Patel in disproportionate assets case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today said it had registered a case against Natubhai Gomanbhai Patel, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) member of the Lok Sabha from the Union Territory of Dadra & Nagar Haveli for alleged possession of assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

The first-time MP is alleged to have amassed disproportionate assets to the tune of about Rs 2.18 crore during the period between 2001 and 2009 when he was functioning as member of Silvassa Group Gram Panchayat, member of Interim Council of Silvassa Municipal Area and member of Silvassa Municipal Council on different occasions, a press release from the CBI said.
 
It said searches at the official and residential premises of the public servant were being conducted in New Delhi and Dadra & Nagar Haveli.
 
"Incriminating documents relating to possession of movable and immovable assets recovered during searches are being scrutinized. Further investigation is continuing," the release added.
