11 students among 12 killed in road mishap near Ambala in Haryana

Eleven school children and a driver were killed and several others injured when a school van collided with a truck near Saha, 10 km from here, today.
Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident and announced a financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh to the next of kin those killed in the accident.
The accident occurred when the van, carrying students in the age group of 4 to 11 years, was on its way to Arjun Public School, located near Saha, this morning
The driver of the bus died on the spot while eight of the students were declared brought dead by the doctors at the Ambala Cantt civil hospital.
One student later succumbed to his injuries at civil hospital Shahbad while two others died in Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Chandigarh.
The deceased were idenitified as Vishal, Rahul, Lovlesh, Ashish, Ashu, Pulkit, Divya, Rishab, Raveesh, Harish and Anu.
Sixteen of the injured students were admitted to GMCH Chandigarh while three others were taken to Military Hospital, Ambala.
Deputy Commissioner Shekhar Vidyarthi and DCP Shashank Anand reached the spot and supervised the rescue operation.

The parents of the children complained that the van provided for carrying the children to school had capacity to accommodate 12 students but over 30 children were packed in it daily. They demanded action against the school management.
Hooda, who visited the city after the incident, ordered a magisterial enquiry to look into the circumstances leading to the tragic accident.
Hooda announced a financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh to the next of kin of those killed in the accident. He also announced an aid of Rs 25,000 to each seriously injured and Rs 10,000 to each injured.
The Chief Minister said all the injured would be treated free of cost.
Hooda visited various hospitals to enquire about the well-being of the injured students.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner ordered a change in the school timings in the district. The school timings would now be from 1000 hrs to 1530 hrs.
