Maoists call 24-hrs bandh in Jangalmahal on October 22

The Maoists today called a 24-hour strike in the Jangalmahal area on October 22 defying West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's seven-day ultimatum to lay down arms.

Ms Banerjee, during her visit to Jangalmahal on October 15, had asked the Maoists to give up arms and come to the negotiation table by October 22.

Maoist state secretary Akash, in a press statement told UNI here that the call was a "rebuff to the Chief Minister's challenge."

The bandh would be observed in the Maoist hot bed of Jangalmahal stretching over West Midnapore, Bankura and Purulia districts, he said.
