19 child labourers rescued from north-west Delhi
Nineteen child labourers were rescued from various shoe and purse units in north-west Delhi. The rescue operation was conducted by Bachpan Bachao Andolan and was headed by sub-divisional magistrate of Saraswati Vihar Ajay Kumar. The district task force of the labour department of the Delhi government and Delhi police officials also accompanied them. "The children were working for 12-14 hours a day without any wages. They were also making stickers of some well-known companies," a statement issued by the NGO said today. According to the NGO, the rescued child labourers were from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh and most of them were trafficked from their native villages by middlemen. All the rescued children were produced before the Child Welfare Committee of Awantika Bench, who ordered that the children be sent to a rehabilitation centre of the NGO. NNN
