6 killed, dozens injured in bus accident in West Bengal

At least six people were killed and about 50 injured when a private bus carrying them overturned after veering off the road near Katwa in West Bengal's Burdhman district today.

The bus, which was filled beyond its capacity, was on its way to the temple town of Tarapith, police said.

The six-wheeler was carrying people, most of them on a trip to Tarapith Kali temple, from Krishnagar in neighbouring Nadia district. The vehicle fell into a ditch at Jatinpur near Katwa this morning.

Police said six people died on the spot after they fell down and were crushed under the heavy vehicle.

Several injured were admitted to Katwa Sadar hospital, where the condition of eight was serious.
