Commonwealth Games: CBI to grill Kalmadi again soon

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today said it would grill former Commonwealth Games (CWG) Organising Committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi again soon as a part of its ongoing probe into the alleged irregularities in the organisation of the event here from October 3-14 last year.

The CBI has already issued summons to Mr Kalmadi to appear before it for questioning. He is likely to be grilled in the next two or three days.

"Kalmadi will return to India tomorrow. He is likely to appear before CBI in two-three days," a CBI spokesperson said.

Mr Kalmadi was to appear before the agency on April 15 but he was out of the country. It has already grilled Mr Kalmadi several times in relation with the case.

The next questioning of Mr Kalmadi will be an "important development" in the case as the CBI has sent a two-member team to London to gather details about the alleged irregularities in the conduct of Queen's Baton Relay (QBR) in the run-up to the CWG.

The team was sent to collect details on financial transactions related to two Games contracts awarded to the London-based AM Cars & Vans and AM Films. These contracts were worth about Rs 3 crore.

The CBI has registered nine cases so far in connection with the probe.
