A brilliant 47-run sixth wicket partnership between Aaron Finch and Venugopal Rao off just 25 balls saw Delhi Daredevils chase down a mammoth score of 188 to give themselves their first win in the fourth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) at the D Y Patil Stadium here today.

The win put into the shade Pune Warriors' captain Yuvraj Singh's all-round performance (66 not out and four wickets).

Set a target of 188 for victory, the Delhi Daredevils made 190 for seven with four balls to spare to register a three wicket victory. It was the first defeat for the Yuvraj-led side in three matches.

Virender Sehwag and David Warner began the Daredevils chase in right earnest, with the left-right combination taking the fight into the opposition camp as the two put on a quick fire 75 runs for the first wicket in just seven overs, before Warner was run out.

Warner made 46 off just 28 balls with six fours and two sixes to give the Daredevils a perfect launch pad.

Sehwag continued to dominate the bowling, but with the score on 97 in the tenth over, the Indian opener was castled by Jesse Ryder for 37 which came off 23 balls with six boundaries.

The Daredevils ended the first 10 overs on the same score as that of Pune Warriors being 98 for two at the half way stage.

However, Yuvraj introduced himself in the 13th over, which proved to be the turning point as the Pune Warriors captain first got rid of Irfan Pathan who holed out to deep mid-wicket for 14 where Srikant Wagh took a good catch and then of the next ball had Naman Ojha stumped by Robin Uthappa for 11 to leave the Daredevils on 116 for four after 13 overs.

Rahul Sharma then got rid of Mathew Wade for just 3 as the batsman tried to hit him towards mid-wicket, but missed the ball which skidded onto him and rapped him on his pads in front of the stumps.

However, Finch and Venugopal kept the Daredevils in the hunt with both hitting a couple of sixes each to leave the match poised nicely with the Daredevils requiring 21 runs in the last two overs.

Yuvraj Singh then once again proved to be the lucky charm for his team as he ended Finch's cameo innings of 25 off 12 balls with one four and two sixes when he took a tame return catch.

Venugopal Rao continued to keep Daredevils in the hunt hitting a huge six off Yuvraj, but was out the next ball when he clattered a short delivery from Yuvraj straight to deep mid-wicket where Abhishek Jhunjhunwala took an easy catch. Rao made 31 off 20 balls with one four and three sixes.

However, James Hopes took the Daredevils across the winning line smashing Ryder for a six and a boundary of the first two balls of the last over to finish the game of in style.

Earlier, swashbuckling half centuries by Ryder and Yuvraj Singh saw Pune Warriors India pile up a massive 187 for five.

Put in to bat by Sehwag, Pune Warriors got of to a great start with Ryder dispatching the bowlers to all parts of the ground.

Daredevils were also let down by their fielding with Ryder getting a couple of chances in his 27-ball knock of 60 which included five boundary hits and five huge sixes.

Pune Warriors were so dominant that the first 10 overs saw them pile up 98 runs and it looked like they would easily reach 200.

However, a mid-innings slump which saw them lose Ryder, Uthappa and Mohnish Mishra quickly gave hopes of Delhi restricting the Pune Warriors to a manageable total.

Yuvraj took to Ashok Dinda in the last over of the innings smashing him for a boundary and three huge sixes. Dinda gave away as many as 26 runs in that over which saw Pune Warriors reach 187 for five.

Hope with one for 26 from his four overs was the most economical bowler for the Daredevils.
