Congress names six more candidates for Tamil Nadu elections

The Congress today announced candidates for six seats for the April 13 elections to the 14th Tamil Nadu Assembly, completing its quota in the southern state where it has sewn up an alliance with the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK).

According to a statement by Congress General Secretary Oscar Fernandes, candidates for the Tiruttani, Krishnagiri and Colachel have been replaced while candidates for Poonamaliee (SC), Tiruppur (South) and Ramanathapuram have been selected by the party's Central Election Committee.

Dr E S S Raman will be the party candidate from Tiruttani in place of T L Sadhasivalingam while N Maqbool Jan replaces Dr Haseena Syed as the party candidate from Krishnagiri, and J G Prince will contest from Colachel in place of C Robert Bruce.

Kanchi G V Mathiyazhagan will be the candidate from Poonamaliee (SC) while K Senthik Kumar is the candidate from Tiruppur (South) seat and K H Hassan Ali is the party candidate from Ramanathapuram.

The Congress had on Wednesday released a list of 60 candidates for the State assembly polls. It is contesting the Tamil Nadu elections in alliance with the DMK. As per the seat sharing arrangement between the Congress and the DMK, the Congress will contest 63 seats in the 234-member House.
