3 killed, 7 hurt in blast at fire cracker unit in Punjab

At least three people were killed and seven injured in a blast at a fire-cracker manufacturing unit in a house of Fajjupur village in Dhariwal sub-division of this district in Punjab early this morning.

The blast occured in the unit owned by a person called Baljinder Singh at about 0430 hrs and it was so powerful that five other houses in the vicinity caught fire and collapsed due to its impact, police said.

About ten people were still trapped in the debris of the houses, police said. Police personnel and fire fighters were trying to rescue them.
