India to send humanitarian aid to Kyrgyzstan

India has decided to provide urgent humanitarian aid to the people of Kyrgyzstan who are facing a crisis after a series of incidents of ethnic violence last month.

An official press release said the assistance, being sent in response to an appeal by the Kyrgyz Government, would comprise food items, medicines and tents. They will be despatch in two Indian Air Force IL-76 aircraft over the next few days, it said.

The release said the supplies wuld be delivered to the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kyrgyzstan at Osh, through the Embassy of India in that country.

The release said India had been closely following the recent internal developments in Kyrgyzstan, which is a part of the country's extended neighbourhood.

"We are happy to noe that calm has returned to southern Kyrgyzstan after the unfortunate incidents of violence in mid-June. The events, however, left thousands in need of urgent humanitarian assistance," it added.
