Commission on Centre-State relations submits report to Home Minister

The Commission on Centre State Relations submitted its report to the Union Home Minister, P. Chidambaram here today.
The Chairman of the Commission, Justice (Retd.) Madan Mohan Punchhi, presented the report to the Minister in the presence of the members of the Commission, Mr Dhirendra Singh, Mr V. K. Duggal, Dr. N. R. Madhava Menon and Mr Vijay Shankar.
According to an official release, the report contains seven volumes. After receiving the report, the Union Home Minister said that it would be processed expeditiously.
The Commission was constituted in April, 2007 to take a fresh look at the relative roles and responsibilities of the various levels of government and their inter-relations.
It was asked to make recommendations to help address the emerging challenges, the release said.
In the mid-1980s, the Sarkaria Commission had undertaken a comprehensive review of the Centre-State relations. Both the polity and economy of the country have since undergone profound changes posing new challenges, the release added.
