Govt. to conduct special recruitment drive for IPS officers

The Government has proposed to conduct a special recruitment drive for filling the large number of vacancies in the Indian Police Service (IPS).

The drive would be open to serving junior ranking police officers from the State and Central police forces, Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Maken said in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha yesterday.

He said the Ministry proposed to fill about 490 posts through a Limited Competitive Examination in a span of seven years to mitigate the shortage of Direct Recruitment quota of IPS officers.

The proposal had been sent to the Department of Personnel and Training and the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for consideration, he added.
