3 more swine flu deaths in India, toll goes up to 1376

Three more people have died of influenza A (H1N1) in India, taking the death toll in the country due to the swine flu pandemic so far to 1376, an official statement said here today.

One death was reported in Maharashtra during the day, while details of two deaths that occurred earlier - one each in Rajasthan and Punjab - were also conveyed by the state authorities concerned to the Centre today, it said.

Of the total swine flu deaths in the country so far, Maharashtra now accounts for 369, while 289 lives have been lost in Gujarat, 194 in Rajasthan, 148 in Karnataka, 95 in Delhi, 52 in Andhra Pradesh, 40 in Punjab, 38 in Haryana, 37 in Kerala, 26 in Madhya Pradesh, 19 in Uttar Pradesh, 13 in Uttarakhand, 11 in Chhattisgarh, 8 each in Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh, 7 in Tamil Nadu, 6 in Puducherry, 5 in Goa, 4 in Jammu & Kashmir, 3 in Orissa, 2 in Assam and 1 each in Mizoram and Dadra & Nagar Haveli.

The statement said 35 new cases of the flu were reported today, including 25 in Maharashtra, 4 in Gujarat, 3 in Rajasthan 2 in Karnataka and 1 in Delhi.

With these, the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases of the virus reported in the country so far has gone up to 29,710, the statement added.
