The Mahindra Theatre Festival, featuring the ten finest productions entered for the Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Awards (META) 2010, will be held here from March 2-6, the organisers have said.

The productions will be staged at the Kamani and the Sri Ram Centre auditoria in the capital, with theatre groups from around the country vying for awards in ten categories.

The jury for the awards comprise actor Dhritiman Chaterji, film-maiker M S Sathyu, author Nayantara Sahgal, screenplay writer Ranjit Kapoor, film and stage actress Seema Biswas and director Vijaya Mehta.

The awards night will be held on March 7 at the Taj Mahal Hotel in Delhi and is billed as an unusually interesting theatrical event.

"We are greatly honored to have with us a jury of such great distinction and such exemplary experience. We are very excited and looking forward to their participation in our 5th anniversary year of META," Ravi Dubey, Creative Director of META said.

As many as 230 entries were received for this year's META awards from across the country - the highest number in the last five years.

"That META has attracted over 230 entries from all over India signifies the interest and encouragement it has inspired in theatre companies across India. What is more, it is not just the number of entries that has increased but the quality of the productions that have shown a remarkable improvement every year," he said.

He said that META organisers were now looking at taking the event to the international arena and reinvent it on the global platform.
