Delhi Police head constable killed in UP accident
A head constable, who was travelling to Lucknow with a team from the Delhi Police's Special Cell in connection with the arrest of a suspected operative of the Indian Mujahideen (IM) by the Uttar Pradesh Police, was killed when their vehicle met with an accident today.
Police sources said the head constable, Rajbir, died on the spot and five others suffered injuries when the vehicle overturned near Shahjahanpur in Uttar Pradesh.
The sources said more details about the accident were not available immediately.
The team was on its way to Lucknow to follow up on the arrest by the Anti-Tetrrorist Squad (ATS) of the UP Police of Shahzad, 21, on Monday from Azamgarh. He is believed to be an IM operative who was allegedly involved in the serial blasts in Delhi on September 13, 2008 as well as the Batla House encounter on September 19, 2008, in which a police officer, M C Sharma, was killed.
The Delhi Police believes that Shahzad was responsble for the burst that killed Sharma and had announced a reward of Rs 5 lakh for information leading to his arrest.
