7 more swine flu deaths in India, toll rises to 1221

Seven more deaths in recent days in three states have taken the death toll in India due to swine flu to 1221, an official statement said here today.

While no deaths were reported during the day today, details of the seven earlier deaths - four in Gujarat, two in Maharashtra and one in Madhya Pradesh - were conveyed by the state authorities to the Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare today, it said.

The total number of deaths also includes four deaths - three in Gujarat and one in Maharashtra - reported yesterday when the Ministry did not issue its daily bulletin.

Of the total swine flu deaths in the country so far, Maharashtra now accounts for 315, while 230 lives have been lost in Gujarat, 176 in Rajasthan, 141 in Karnataka, 93 in Delhi, 52 in Andhra Pradesh, 38 in Punjab, 36 each in Kerala and Haryana, 22 in Madhya Pradesh, 18 in Uttar Pradesh, 13 in Uttarakhand, 8 each in Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh, 7 in Tamil Nadu, 6 each in Chhattisgarh and Puducherry, 5 in Goa, 4 in Jammu & Kashmir, 3 in Orissa, 2 in Assam and 1 each in Mizoram and Dadra & Nagar Haveli.

The statement said 13 new cases of swine flu were reported from different parts of India today - 8 in Gujarat, 2 in Rajasthan and 1 each in Karnataka, Orissa and Uttar Pradesh,

With these, the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases of the virus reported in the country so far has gone up to 28,775, the statement added.
