16 more swine flu deaths in India, toll rises to 1135
Sixteen more deaths caused by influenza A (H1N1) have been reported from India, taking the toll due to the swine flu pandemic in the country so far to 1135, an official statement said here today.
Eight of the deaths - seven in Gujarat and one in Kerala - were reported during the day today, the statement said.
Besides, reports of eight deaths in recent days - six in Gujarat and two in Rajasthan - were received from the health authorities of the states concerned by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare today, it said.
Of the total swine flu deaths in the country so far, Maharashtra now accounts for 300, while 189 lives have been lost in Gujarat, 172 Rajasthan, 137 in Karnataka, 89 in Delhi, 52 in Andhra Pradesh, 37 in Punjab, 35 in Kerala, 33 in Haryana, 17 each in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, 13 in Uttarakhand, 8 each in Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh, 7 in Tamil Nadu, 6 in Puducherry, 5 in Goa, 3 in Orissa, 2 each in Assam, Jammu & Kashmir and Chhattisgarh and 1 in Mizoram.
The statement said 56 new cases of swine flu were reported from different parts of India today, including 19 in Gujarat, 16 in Maharashtra, 6 in Rajasthan 5 each in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, 2 in Tamil Nadu and 1 each in Karnataka, West Bengal and Kerala.
With these, the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases of the virus reported in the country so far has gone up to 28,251, the statement added.
