4 more H1N1 deaths in Rajasthan take India toll to 573

Four more people have died of influenza A (H1N1) in Rajasthan, taking the toll due to the swine flu pandemic in India so far to 573, an official statement said here today.


Three of the deaths in the state occurred during the day today. One death that occurred earlier has now been confirmed as a case of swine flu, it said.


Of the total deaths in the country so far, Maharashtra now accounts for 223, while 120 lives have been lost in Karnataka, 50 in Andhra Pradesh, 46 in Gujarat, 42 in Rajasthan, 26 in Kerala, 22 in Delhi, 8 in Haryana, 7 in Tamil Nadu, 6 in Puducherry, 5 each in Goa and Uttarakhand, 3 each in Uttar Pradesh, Orissa and Punjab and 1 each in Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Mizoram.


As many as 139 fresh cases of influenza A (H1N1) were reported from different parts of India today, including 60 in Delhi, 34 in Haryana, 19 in Rajasthan, 13 in Uttar Pradesh, 7 in Kerala, 3 in Punjab, 2 in Jammu and Kashmir and 1 in Goa.


With these, the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases of the virus reported in the country so far has gone up to 18,007, the statement added.
