3 more H1N1 deaths in India, toll goes up to 569

Three more persons have died of influenza A (H1N1) in India, taking the total number of deaths caused by the swine flu pandemic in the country so far to 569, an official statement said here today.


Two of the deaths occurred during the day in Maharashtra and one in Kerala, the statement said.


Of the total deaths in the country so far, Maharashtra now accounts for 223, while 120 lives have been lost in Karnataka, 50 in Andhra Pradesh, 46 in Gujarat, 38 in Rajasthan, 26 in Kerala, 22 in Delhi, 8 in Haryana, 7 in Tamil Nadu, 6 in Puducherry, 5 each in Goa and Uttarakhand, 3 each in Uttar Pradesh, Orissa and Punjab and 1 each in Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Mizoram.


As many as 139 fresh cases of influenza A (H1N1) were reported from different parts of India today, including 48 in Delhi, 19 in Maharashtra, 17 in Haryana, 13 in Kerala, 12 in Rajasthan, 10 in Uttar Pradesh, 5 in Chandigarh, 3 each in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry and 1 in Gujarat.


With these, the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases of the virus reported in the country so far has gone up to 17,868, the statement added.
