2 more H1N1 deaths in India, toll rises to 560

Two more influenza A (H1N1) deaths have been reported from India, taking the toll due to the swine flu pandemic in the country so far to 560, an official statement said here today.

One of the deaths was reported during the day from Rajasthan and the other from Orissa, the statement said.

Of the total deaths in India, Maharashtra now accounts for 221, while 120 lives have been lost in Karnataka, 50 in Andhra Pradesh, 46 in Gujarat, 38 in Rajasthan, 25 in Kerala, 18 in Delhi, 8 in Haryana, 7 in Tamil Nadu, 6 in Puducherry, 5 each in Goa and Uttarakhand, 3 each in Uttar Pradesh and Orissa, 2 in Punjab and 1 each in Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh and Mizoram.

As many as 234 fresh cases of influenza A (H1N1) were reported from different parts of India today, including 68 in Delhi, 42 in Rajasthan, 40 in Haryana, 21 in Tamil Nadu, 20 in Uttar Pradesh, 14 in Maharashtra, 13 in Karnataka, 12 in Kerala, 2 in Gujarat and 1 each in Orissa and Puducherry.

With these, the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases of the virus reported in the country so far has gone up to 17,196, the statement added.
