2 more swine flu deaths take India toll to 555

Two more deaths caused by influenza A (H1N1) were reported from India today, taking the toll due to the swine flu pandemic in the country so far to 555, an official statement said here today.

One of the deaths was reported during the day from Maharashtra and the other from Rajasthan, it said.

Of the total deaths in India, Maharashtra now accounts for 221, while 120 lives have been lost in Karnataka, 50 in Andhra Pradesh, 46 in Gujarat, 34 in Rajasthan, 25 in Kerala, 18 in Delhi, 8 in Haryana, 7 in Tamil Nadu, 6 in Puducherry, 5 each in Goa and Uttarakhand, 3 in Uttar Pradesh, 2 each in Orissa and Punjab and 1 each in Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh and Mizoram.

As many as 237 fresh cases of influenza A (H1N1) were reported from different parts of India today, including 97 in Delhi, 43 in Haryana, 40 in Rajasthan, 20 in Maharashtra, 14 in Uttar Pradesh, 9 in Kerala, 7 in Tamil Nadu, 3 in Karnataka and 2 each in Jammu and Kashmir and Gujarat.

With these, the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases of the virus reported in the country so far has gone up to 16,820, the statement added.
