Biennial elections to Karnataka, Maharashtra Legislative Councils on Dec 8
The Election Commission will hold biennial elections to the Legislative Councils of Karnataka and Maharashtra from the Local Authorities' constituencies on December 18.
An official press release said a bye-election to the Legislative Council of Maharahstra would be held on the same day from the Nashik Division Graduates' constituency.
In Karnataka, the term of office of 25 seats in the Legislative Council from 20 Local Authorities' constituences will expire on January 5 on the retirement of the sitting members.
Similarly, in Maharashtra the term of office of eight seats in the State Legislative Council from 7 Local Authorities' constituences is due to expire on January 1 on the retirement of the sitting members.
The casual vacancy in the Maharashtra Legislative Council occurred due to the resignation of Mr Pratap Sonawane on May 26 this year. He was a sitting member from the Nashik Division Graduates' constituency, whose term of office will expire on December 5.
Counting of votes will be taken up on December 21, the release added.
