3 more H1N1 deaths in India, toll rises to 526

Influenza A (H1N1) has claimed three more lives in India, taking the toll due to the swine flu pandemic in the country so far to 526, an official statement said here today.


Two of the deaths were reported during the day from Rajasthan and one from Maharashtra, it said.


Of the total number of swine flu deaths in the country, Maharashtra now accounts for 214, while 118 lives have been lost in Karnataka, 49 in Andhra Pradesh, 44 in Gujarat, 25 in Kerala, 23 in Rajasthan, 18 in Delhi, 7 in Tamil Nadu, 6 in Puducherry, 5 in Haryana, 4 eacg in Goa and Uttarakhand, 3 in Uttar Pradesh, 2 in Punjab and 1 each in Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Orissa and Mizoram.


As many as 139 fresh cases of the flu were reported from different parts of the country today, including 35 in Rajasthan, 24 in Tamil Nadu, 23 in Kerala, 14 each in Delhi and Haryana, 10 in Karnataka, 9 in Chandigarh, 7 in Maharashtra, and 1 each in Punjab, Gujarat and West Bengal.


With these, the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases of the virus reported in the country so far has gone up to 15,550, the statement added.
