6 more swine flu deaths in India, toll rises to 514

Six more people have died of swine flu in India, taking the toll due to the pandemic in the country so far to 514, an official statement said today.

Two of the deaths were reported during the day from Rajasthan, which has seen a surge of cases of the influenza A (H1N1) in recent days. Two deaths occurred in Gujarat and one each in Maharashtra and Delhi.

Of the total number of swine flu deaths in the country, Maharashtra now accounts for 210, while 117 lives have been lost in Karnataka, 49 in Andhra Pradesh, 42 in Gujarat, 23 in Kerala, 21 in Rajasthan, 18 in Delhi, 7 in Tamil Nadu, 6 in Puducherry, 5 in Haryana, 4 in Goa, 3 each in Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh, 2 in Punjab and 1 each in Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Orissa and Mizoram.

As many as 154 fresh cases of the flu were reported from different parts of the country today, including 49 in Rajasthan, 32 in Delhi, 16 in Kerala, 13 in Tamil Nadu, 10 each in Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh, 9 in Haryana, 6 in Chandigarh, 5 in Karnataka, and 1each in Andhra Pradesh, Puducherry, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat.

According to the statement, the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases of the virus reported in the country so far has crossed the 15,000-mark to touch 15,016. The number includes 11 positive cases in Delhi that occurred between November 7 and 10, reports about which were received by the Union Health Ministry today.
