7 more H1N1 deaths in India, toll rises to 472

Seven more people have died of influenza A (H1N1) in India, taking the total number of the deaths due to the pandemic in the country so far to 472, an official statement here today.


One death each was reported during the day from Maharashtra, Kerala and Puducherry, the statement said.


Besides, three deaths reported earlier in Maharashtra and one in Rajasthan have now been confirmed as cases of swine flu, it said.


With these, the number of deaths due to H1N1 in Maharashtra has crossed the 200-mark today and now stands at 201. Of the total deaths in the country, Karnataka accounts for 117, while 49 people have lost their lives in Andhra Pradesh, 40 in Gujarat, 16 in Delhi, 15 in Kerala, 7 in Tamil Nadu, 6 in Puducherry, 5 in Haryana, 4 in Goa, 3 each in Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh, 2 in Rajasthan and 1 each in Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Mizoram and Punjab.


The statement said 77 fresh cases of the flu were reported from across the country today, including 19 in Tamil Nadu, 18 in Kerala, 12 in Delhi, 9 in Maharashtra, 7 in Karnataka, 4 in Gujarat, 3 in Uttar Pradesh, 2 each in Haryana and Orissa and 1in Andhra Pradesh.


The total number of laboratory-confirmed cases of the virus reported so far in India has risen to 13,861, it added.
