19 new cases of influenza A (H1N1) in India

As many as 19 new cases of influenza A (H1N1) were reported from India today---eleven from Delhi and eight from Pune.

With these, the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases of the virus reported so far from India has risen to 615, an official statement said.

Of the eleven cases in Delhi, ten are contacts of previously reported positive cases, while the eleventh is a 25-year-old youth who arrived from Chicago on July 28.

Seven of eight new cases in Pune, which has been the worst-hit city in India, are contacts of previously reported cases. The eighth case is a 45-year-old woman who arrived from Frankfurt on July 31.
