All 27 states have constituted Information Commissions: Govt.

The government today informed Parliament that all the 27 states, to which the Right to Information Act, 2005, applies, have constituted Information Commissions.

Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions Prithviraj Chavan told the Rajya Sabha in a written reply to a question by a member that Union Territories were covered by the Central Information Commission.

He said the government had initiated a centrally-sponsored scheme on "Strengthening, Capacity Building and Awareness Generation for Effective Implementation of the RTI Act" by providing funds to State Information Commissions.

These funds are to be used for their IT enablement and propagation of right to information; imparting training to various stakeholders; and generating awareness through media, among other activities.
