Ansari inaugurates Brig. Mohd Usman Memorial Function at Naoshera
New Delhi, July 4, 2009

Vice President Hamid Ansari being presented a memento by the Lt. Gen. P C Bhardwaj at the bust unveiling ceremony of Late Brigadier Mohammed Usman, at Jhangar, Naoshera in Jammu & Kashmir on Saturday.
The function was held to commemorate the sacrifices of Brig. Usman and other valiant soldiers who laid down their lives for saving their motherland in the 1947-48 operations in the Naoshera Sector.
During the solemn proceedings, Mr Ansari laid a wreath and unveiled the bust of Brig Usman. He also interacted with war veterans of the Naoshera sector as well as the troops deployed on the Line of Control in the sector.
An official press release said the troops were overwhelmed by the occasion and vowed to continue defending the frontiers with greater vigour and dedication.
Lt. General P. C. Bhagwaj, Army Commander, Northern Command and Lt. General R. K. Swami, General Officer Commanding White Night Corps, were amongst those present on the occasion.

The Vice President presented mementos and shawls to the Bal Sainiks and senior citizens of Naoshera region on the occasion. They included Honorary Captain Moti Ram, Naib Subedar Gyan Chand, Subedar Sita Ram, Hawaldar Baldev Singh, Subedar Major Dhyan Singh, Naib Subedar S. P Sahani, Kali Das, Mahendra Lal, Basant Singh and S N Randhawa. A large number of civilians also gathered to pay tributes to Brig Usman, the hero who saved Naoshera and reclaimed Jhangar from the enemy’s hand, the release added.
