Four new cases of influenza A (H1N1) reported from India

Four new cases of influenza A (H1N1) were reported from India today---one each from Gurgaon, Bangalore, Pune and Kochi.

With these, the total number of confirmed cases of the virus reported in the country so far has gone up to 116, an official statement said.

The new case in Gurgaon is of a six-year-old girl, who landed here on June 27 from Houston in the United States by an American Airlines flight. She was brought to the hospital yesterday with symptoms of fever, running nose and vomitting, the statement said.

The case in Bangalore is of a four-year-old girl who travelled form the US via Singapore and reached the city on June 30. She was detected with symptoms of fever and cough during the screening at the airport and was admitted to the hospital.

In Pune, a 34-year-old woman, who arrived on June 27 from San Francisco in the US via Hong Kong and Mumbai, reported to hospital on June 30 with various symptoms of the flu.

The case from Kochi is of a 68-year-old woman who arrived from Toronto on June 29. She was found to be having symptoms of fever and cough during screening at the airport and admitted to hospital, the statement said.

Of the 116 people who have tested positive for the virus so far, as many as 80 have already been discharged from hospital. The rest are undergoing treatment in hospital, it added.
