Western Railway introduces 40 new Suburban Services in Mumbai

As a Republic Day gift to the people of this sprawling metropolis, the Western Railway today announced plans to start 40 new suburban services from January 26.

The increase has been made possible by the induction of two more new hi-tech EMU rakes. As many as 32 of the new services would be on the Virar sector.

An official statement said five of the new services would be during the peak hours.

"Every effort is being taken by WR to ease the load on trains on the Borivali-Virar sector and this is one step to provide relief to the commuters of this sector," the statement said.

With the increase, the number of Virar sector services will go up from 370 to 402 and 12 car services from 612 to 652. Care has been taken to reduce the gaps between the Virar trains.

Earlier, Western Railway had introduced 23 new services in November, and with the latest announcement, the total number of services on its suburban section will go up to 1196 per day, the statement added.
